Weird bugs flying alll around the roof of house!!!!?

do they look like bumblebees ? if so they are carpenterbees and love flying around roofs they bore holes in wood on the bottom side to lay their eggs and when I use to do roofing I aways ran into them . look for holes on the under side of anything wood and fill the holes with putty they hit all like soffit ,facial boards ,decks, window sills .the most I have seen on one roof is about 10-12 flying at one time probably mating.
