Max. credit hours for financial aid?

I have reached the max. hours for my degree plan so I am ineligible for financial aid, if I add a minor to my degree plan, will it increase my max. hour limit? I attended school in my early years, returned to obtain a BA in Finance so my early attendance is coming into to play. I filed an appeal but was denied and a lil birdie told me I could add a minor to my degree plan so it would allow me additional hours and possible remove the block. I plan to contact my school to as but I wanted to make sure the lil birdie is on to something.
