How would one act if they got the role of Hugo in By Bye Birdie?

I landed the role of Hugo for a main production of Bye Bye Birdie in my town and i need a little bit more backround on how I would persue this. The only thing I know is that he is Kim's steady and he is upset that Kim won a contest to kiss Conrad. Also I guess Hugo is awkward or like kind of a creeper.
