Novocaine/tooth extraction?

So on Friday I have to get a tooth pulled. It the 1st or 2nd upper left molar. I have low pain tolerence. I just wondering if I had to get a novocaine shot on the roof of my mouth and how bad that hurts. Also if I can just get the shot in my gums and be fine without the shot in the roof of my mouth.
