What should I do during this scene?

I am in the show "Bye Bye Birdie" as Mrs. MacAfee, but I'm pretty clueless on what I should be doing in the first half of the number "Kids" while Mr. MacAfee is the only one ranting. I kind of just stand there nodding, occasionally looking like I'm about to say something, but looking disappointed when he ignores me.
